         About Me:

I grew up in a family of "do it yourself" folks. My mom can paint, design, and quilt, my dad can build nearly anything, and my brother can weld and craft whatever the situation calls for.

Rather than video games and cartoons, my brother and I were pushed outside as kids when we weren't in school. Whether digging a hole or making Christmas presents in the shop, I came to appreciate working with my hands.

Between high school and college, I served as a Sergeant and Combat Engineer in the United States Marines which gave me opportunities to "play" with some new tools on a variety of projects both stateside and overseas. This set me up to seek that same primal reward generated from working with natural materials to make tangible projects...to see something transform with every hour of work, and drop of sweat put in.

Nowadays, perhaps too much of my time and energy go towards woodworking. More than a decent portion of my home is taken up by stacked slabs (talk about a great natural air freshener!), works in progress, and tools. More and more, I have found that taking the time to make something for friends or family is the most calming, rewarding, and meaningful thing I can do.

This is a hobby and passion first and foremost, and the business comes second. Thus, the time spent on these projects is just as important as the finished product itself. I encourage anyone and everyone to try to make whatever it is you're walking around a store or browsing the internet to buy. Even if its rough to start, you can take pride in it. So go on and get your hands dirty and create your craft, and only use my website's store as your backup plan. Whether you're looking for tips, advice, or something for your home, I hope MTW can lend a hand.
